SPORTS FIELDS DEVELOPMENT

One of the major focuses of the Stony Mountain Community Association over the past few years has been the development of the former penitentiary land behind the school and arena into an expansion of the sportsfields.

This project has been undertaken in partnership with the RM of Rockwood who have contributed significantly to the project.  Some of the work has also been sponsored by the RM of Rosser, federal and provinical grants and other community groups.

Work in 2009 and 2010 included the construction of an outdoor skating rink, warmup shack and soccer fields.  A treed shelterbelt was also planted with a grant from the Manitoba Hydro Forest Enhancement Program.

2011 work included the completion of the soccer fields, planting of additional shade trees and the construction of two additional baseball diamonds.

The fields saw some final touches in the Fall of 2012 and are now fully operations for the 2013 soccer and baseball season!!
